Published Feb 17, 2021Françoise Cactus — best known as the singer of experimental pop group Stereo Total — has died. The sad news was shared today via Stereo Total's social media accounts, stating she passed away this morning in her Berlin apartment following a long battle with breast cancer. Cactus was 57.

Stereo Total formed back in 1993, with the French-German group being led over the years by the core duo of Cactus and Brezel Göring. With lyrics sung in German, French, English and even more languages, Stereo Total were early mashup adaptors, weaving together everything from electro-pop to psych rock to '60s French pop to dance music and a whole lot of kitsch.
Most recently, Stereo Total released their album Ah! Quel Cinéma! in 2019. However, the group arguably made their biggest impact with 1997's cult classic Monokini, as well as such other beloved albums like their 1995 debut Oh Ah! and 2001's Musique Automatique.
