Genghis Tron Officially Reunite for New Album
The long-gone group now features the Armed singer Tony Wolski and Baptists/Sumac drummer Nick Yacyshyn
After going on hiatus back in 2010 and then teasing their return earlier this year, the experimental metal group have revealed they are at last working on follow-up to 2008's Board Up the House with Kurt Ballou (Converge, High on Fire, Full of Hell) at GodCity Studio in Salem, MA. The as-yet-untitled record will be released in 2021 via Relapse Records.
However, Genghis Tron have gone through a few lineup significant changes since we last heard from them. Vocalist Mookie Singerman has left the band, and he is being replaced by the Armed singer Tony Wolski. Genghis Tron also now features Canadian drum hero Nick Yacyshyn (Sumac, Baptists) for the new album, with original members Hamilton Jordan and Michael Sochynsky rounding out the lineup.
"We said it was just a hiatus and we meant it! It's been incredible writing music again and hearing everything come together in the studio," said Sochynsky in a statement. "This is the album we've always wanted to write. We can't wait to share what we've been working on."
Jordan added: "I was 19 when we started writing songs. Michael was 20. The first thing we tried to do was cram together all our influences — shredding guitars and blastbeats, and then out of nowhere comes this really pleasant sounding Boards of Canada or Autechre moment. It seemed like a great idea at the time.""
In addition to the upcoming studio album, Genghis Tron recently reissued their two full-length albums Board Up the House and Dead Mountain Mouth. You can order those via Relapse.
Our hiatus is over! We are in Salem, MA right now recording our new album at GodCity Studio. We (Michael and Hamilton) have been joined by two incredible collaborators for this album: Tony Wolski (vocals) and Nick Yacyshyn (drums). Our buddy Mookie is no longer in the band, but all is good and we still love him. The album comes out in 2021 on Relapse Records. We are extremely stoked about the new material. #genghistron #relapserecords
