Walmart Is Transforming Its Parking Lots into Drive-In Movie Theatres
The retail giant made the announcement on Wednesday (July 1), revealing that it had teamed up with Tribeca Enterprises to refashion 160 Walmart parking lots into pop-up movie theatres across the U.S. Overall, there will be a total of 320 screenings running from August to October.
So far, though, details remain a bit murky, with Walmart not yet revealing the locations, dates and — most importantly — which movies will actually be shown. It does appear, however, that the drive-ins will only be in the U.S.
According to the new Walmart Drive-In website, the initiative will be the "most amazing family drive-in movie tour ever."
Janey Whiteside, chief customer officer of Walmart, also stated: "Summer hasn't really felt like summer yet, and I know I hear every day, 'Mom, I'm bored!' Through our digital means and vast footprint of stores, we're hoping to bring some summer fun to families across the country. We know Walmart plays a role in our communities that extends far beyond getting them necessary supplies, and we see that now more than ever."
As previously reported, Canada's largest movie chain Cineplex will be reopening multiple theatres across the country on Friday (July 3). You can learn more here.
