Published Oct 01, 2018Red Hot Chili Peppers' love of Jimi Hendrix is well-documented: they covered his song "Fire," and bassist Flea even has a tattoo of Hendrix's face. Now, quite naturally, they've covered "Purple Haze."
The Peps performed the classic psych rock anthem over the weekend (September 29) during a benefit show at the Silverlake Conservatory of Music in Los Angeles. Check out the hard-hitting cover below, which comes stuffed with wailing guitar solos courtesy of axe-man Josh Klinghoffer.
Also below, check out a snippet of the RHCP's cover of Allman Brothers' "Ramblin' Man," recorded during the same show. With its country rock bounce, it's not quite such a natural fit for the band.
