Published Apr 13, 2020Real Estate recently had to cancel their North American tour due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, but they've managed to create a virtual experience for fans, from hosting their "Live from Out There" charity livestream concert yesterday evening (April 12), and now, in launching an augmented reality concert so you can watch the band perform inside your home.
Drawing from their 2020 album, The Main Thing, the band have created a 3D AR concert experience in place of their tour using an interactive web app.
Here's what they had to say about it:
Collectively we wondered if there was a way to bring a live experience to fans when no one can leave their home. Instead of having a set time when everyone must join a live stream, what if we could make this an on-demand experience people could use whenever/wherever the feeling strikes? That's what augmented reality affords us.
The augmented reality concert features an eight-song set and includes onstage banter and even an encore for that extra real-life vibe.
"Sadly, we're all stuck indoors right now," the band says in the intro of their virtual set. "And it seemed to us like we could all use a few songs now more than ever. We hope this brings good times into your homes, wherever they are."
You can watch the band's virtual concert now. Using an Android or iOS smartphone, head over to the "Quarantour" website, and find a flat surface for the band to play on.
The Main Thing arrived back in February via Domino.
