Published Mar 12, 2015When plans to score a horror film in 2013 fell through, Timber Timbre's Simon Trottier and Oliver Fairfield picked up the pieces with their brooding instrumental project Last Ex.
Exclaim! TV caught the group's set at this year's Wavelength Music Festival on February 14 and captured a performance of "Hotel Blues," a cut taken from their self-titled LP released last year through Constellation Records.
Creating a dark, hazy atmosphere from the get-go, the band slowly increases the tension with their creeping synths and wavering chords. Fairfield, simultaneously managing synths and drums, picks up the pace in the latter half, as the guitar and synth lines continue to play off of one another for the remainder of the track.
